Family Fishing Trips

So you want to take your son or daughter out fishing but don't have a clue what to do or where to go? At Island Guide Services we offer something just for the kids. How does it work? Any child under the age of 10 years old accompanied by mom or dad goes for free!

Because kids typically don't have the attention span of an adult, we offer shorter fishing days of approximately four to five hours. Weather permitting, a shore side lunch is included and of course, what kid doesn't like to throw rocks into the river? In an effort to keep the experience fun and enjoyable for both the kids and adults, we try and expose the kids to all aspects of fishing. While "catching the big one" is certainly a thrill, we also want to introduce the kids to experiences like casting, how to tie simple fishing knots and, depending on the season, exposing them to the life cycle of the salmon or Steelhead by teaching them how the fish spawn and make their way back to the riverķa phenomenon that still amazes me.

What should you bring on this adventure with your kids? Because our weather can change rapidly, proper rain gear is a MUST! A wet child is a very unhappy child. We recommend more than one pair of gloves, especially when fishing in the the fall or winter. Let's face it, bring a child near water and one can almost guarantee that somehow their clothes will get wet. Therefore, please pack a second change of clothing as well. Lastly, I recommend packing a camera, sunglasses and of course, a positive attitude.
